  • Events
    • review December : there is a Lock-In on Dec. 20th if you haven't signed up do so as soon as possible
    • January - 2 events are scheduled
      • Photo Scavenger Hunt: Friday, January 17 @ 5:30 - You will be looking for unusual things this time around and you will need to photograph them.  If you can please bring a digital camera or smart phone
      • Elastic Fun: Wednesday, January 29 @ 5:00 - Come make a bracelet or key chain from colored elastic bands.  If you have a rainbow/crazy loom bring it along.
    • Discuss February
      • Currently suggestion three events: Lock-In, D.I.Y. Afternoon (variety of craft activities for you to do yourself) and an in-library movie
      • In-Library movie suggestions - Marry Poppins, Les Miserable, Catching Fire, The Hobbit.
      • Other - Saving Mr. Banks - would you be interested in doing this as our yearly at the theater movie? yes.  We'll see if it can be done, may be a bit too short of notice.
  • Book List 
    •  looking for suggestions to add to the Teen Book List board on the Library's Pinterest account.  If you could fill these out and get them back to me I'd appreciate.  They can be anything you liked, don't have to be favorites.
  • Tumblr 
    • our social media site more for teens. There are a variety of things there that you can find: book lists, quotes, comic strips, suggestion sites, shelfies (a photograph of a library shelf), as well as library events, etc.  Check out the site.  www.auburnlibraryma.tumblr.com

Minutes: November 20, 2013

  • Holiday event for TAB? Yes, keep it simple - pizza, popcorn, drinks
  • Events
    • November: reminder of photo show, deadline for submissions is Friday at 4pm
    • December: Lock-In - ideas for the event: character guessing game, unwrap presents with gloves, snowman hunt, of course illuminator
    • January: photo scavenger hunt scheduled. Similar to a scavenger hunt except you have a list of odd items and you have to photograph the answer.
    • February: tentatively scheduled - Lockin and D.I.Y. (do it yourself) Craft event: this will be a collection of crafts/activities such as duck tape art, bracelets/keychains, rainbow/crazy loom, and more.
    • Suggestion of doing a rainbow/crazy loom event - possible but would have to be a bring your own loom event.
    • Discussion of going to the movies (nonlibrary event) just everyone going together.  The Book Thief (PG-13) was suggested for Friday, November 29.  Everyone pays their own way.  If you are interested and want to go let Miss Renee know by Monday (11/25) at the latest and she'll pass it along.
  • Newsletter
    • still looking for feature articles or book recommendations.
    • reminder that the library is now on social media (tumblr, twitter, facebook and pinterest)
  • Books for Book Club
    • suggestions for book club - pick from the recommended pile
    • votes: 3-The Bar Code Tattoo     2-The Pledge      1- The Search for WondLa     1-No Passengers Beyond This Point     1-The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks
    • Results: Bar Code Tattoo for December and the Pledge for January
  • Pinterest - Teen Corner
    • Not really a social site more of an organizing site
    • Library uses it for book lists.
    • Looking to create a teen section beyond the Teen Book List
    • Teens can create their own read list to share their reading.  Don't have to join Pinterest to do that, just send a list to Miss Renee and she'll create and post it on the library site.  List should have a minimum of 8 books (graphic appeal)

  • Teen Read Weeks
    • cupcake challenge scheduled for Thursday
    • teen lock-in 10/25 6-8pm.  Costumes optional.  Games: scavenger hunts, illuminator and possibly a pinata
  • Fall Events
    • Teen Book Club has moved for November to Wednesday - reading Scorpio Races

  • Volunteers Needed
    • Looking for help with the Children's Halloween Event: Giggle and Goblins. On 10/29 6-8/8:30 let Miss Renee know if you can help
    • Nov. 20th 5:30-7:30 Story-Mini Golf for kids.  Looking for help to set up easy golf courses
    • McDonald's fundraising event for the Friends of the APL.  This is still in the works and the date hasn't been set, but I'm looking for kids to help me at this event as well to make it a success.  All money raised for the Friends group will be earmarked for childrens and teen programming.
  • BN visit - 1st dibs
    • place your name in the book you want first
  • Concerns/Comments
    • Are we going to do another theater visit?  A: we can but it has to be specific.  The Movie has to be rated G/PG and has to be based on a book.  Reasons: the rating is the only way to get funding and the based on the book is how this is library appropriate
    • Can we do Hunger Games #2? A: Probably not as the movie likely be rated PG-13
    • Could we do a movie visit with just the Teen Advisory Board?  A: its possible but funding may be difficult and the same requirements would apple.  What if we all just showed up at the theater together and paid our own way?  A: Yes that could be done, but you could do that on own and not through library unless you want it as an official event.
  • Next meeting - November 20th at 5:00 (short meeting).

    • if your getting a lift from me don't forget your transportation waiver
    • we're looking to add another 100 books
  • Trivia night - we'll be playing Smartypants
    • is in danger of being cancelled for lack of participants
    • if you want to come don't forget to sign up
    • its at 9/27 at 6:00
  • 1st Lock-In of the season is scheduled for Oct 25 @ 6:00
    • no football game conflicts though there is a middle school dance
    • Halloween themed
    • we'll be playing Illuminator, glow in the dark bowling, and another pinata, maybe some candy scavenger hunt
  • Teen Read week is Oct 14 - 20
    • Seek the Unknown at your library

    • the Friends of the library is generously funding prizes for this year
    • looking for events for that week
      • working on a cooking class - a Cupcake Challenge - waiting to hear back from the host.

    • the Teen review is up and accepting reviews
    • Teen Book club will be held next month on Oct 10 @ 6:00 we're discussing Far Far Away by Tom McNeal (unless we have participants I will cancel the in-person book club)
    • The online book club is still open. We're using the same books as the in-person book club.
    • Don't forget TAB events earn you volunteer credits.

    • a big NO on changing the look of the newsletter - like it the way it is

  • Online and Print changes  - the advisory board now has a website which used to be the old online newsletter site.  
  • Events for the fall
    • last month we created a list of possible events this month we've tentatively selected a few for the fall schedule.  Please note changes may be made to these.
    • Question: how many teen events do you want planned per month - two
    • Lock-ins will still be held only evey other month so that they don't become boring.
    • it has been requested that a teen book club start and be run every month.  As book club hasn't been popular for the past we will test run it for the fall
      • Miss Renee is looking for suggestions for book club - looking for something that will be appropriate for ages 13+, crossover titles (books that could be ya or j) are acceptable
    • September - TAB only event, book club, and jeopardy/trivia (wii game smarty pants)
    • October - lock-in (halloween), book club
      • Lock in well be held during Teen Read Week (Oct 13-19) that Friday
    • November - book club, and possibly a paid performer (drawing class, mentalist or magician)
    • possiblity of a pre-release party for either Hunger Games 2 movie or Divergent movie - looking in to movie release dates before scheduling.
  • Newsletter
    • newsletter will now be located online in a PDF file.  It can be accessed from the teen's library homepage.  Back issues of the newsletter can be found on the teen random stuff page.
    • Newsletter will still cover three months of events.
    • We're looking for book reviews and articles for the fall newsletter.
    • Possiblity of changing the look of the paper format of the newsletter but its in works.

  • Next Meeting: August meeting is cancelled
    • September meeting date to be determined
    • if all TAB members are volunteering at the carnival we'll decide a date that day.
